大谷翔平、『MLB The Show 22』カバーアスリート 投手大谷vs打者大谷の夢対決は「ピッチャーの方が有利かな」
ロサンゼルス・エンゼルスの大谷翔平投手（27）が人気ゲームソフト『MLB The Show 22』のカバーアスリートを務めることが発表された。
昨季、大谷は投打“二刀流”でメジャーを席巻。155試合に出場し、打者として打率2割5分7厘、46本塁打、100打点、26盗塁で、投手として130回1／3を投げて9勝2敗、防御率3.18、156奪三振。メジャーリーグの長い歴史に名を残す活躍を見せた。
カバーアスリートに選ばれた気持ちを問われると「すごく光栄ですし、伝統あるゲームのカバーに採用してもらってうれしいです」と喜んだ。すでにプレイしたそうで、気になるグラフィックに関しては「グラフィックはすごくキレイ。顔も各選手、似ていた。動き自体もリアルでテレビについてたら、ゲームと（実際の映像か）分からないぐらい」と驚いていた。
前例のない大谷の活躍を再現することに開発チームが苦戦するという話もある。ゲーム内でも歴史に残る選手になっているが「そういう設定にしてもらって、うれしく思います。実際に使ってみて、面白いかやってみたいです」と発売を心待ちにしていた。
昔から野球ゲームに親しみ「ゲームぐらい打てたらいいな」と思っていたそう。「僕自身、ゲームで選手の名前を覚えたりしたことがあった。自分に限らず、いろんな選手を使うことで覚えてほしい。また、それでテレビを見て、ゲームをしたら面白いんじゃないかなと思います。テレビで（試合を見ることと）違った面白さもあるんじゃないかなと思います」と呼びかけていた。
また、ゲームでは投手大谷vs打者大谷という夢対決も実現できる。「この間やってみた感想では打つほうが難しいと思った。ピッチャーの方が有利かな」と笑っていた。
『MLB The Show 22』は4月5日に発売予定。フォーマットは、PlayStation5／PlayStation4、Xbox One／Xbox Series X|S、Nintendo Switchとなっている。
